How to Change a Flat Tire near Columbia, MD
Although it is a terrible inconvenience, the chances are good that you will experience a flat tire on your Hyundai at some point in your driving career. Learn how to change a flat tire below so that you’re ready to get back to driving quickly and easily. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at Antwerpen Hyundai of Clarksville.
Tools Required to Perform the Task
You need to stay ahead of the curve by stowing the items needed to change a tire in your Hyundai ELANTRA. Before your commutes in Columbia, it’s important that you have a spare tire in good condition and filled to the proper pressure level. Next, drivers should be certain that they have a lug wrench, a piece required to remove the lug nuts. Also, you must have a means to lift the car, so a car jack is something you should have at your disposal. Another item that you should have handy is the Owner’s Manual for your car, which will have valuable information, including where to place the jack and the required pressure for your tires. Aside from those parts, consider bringing wheel wedges, a reflective vest, and a portable tire inflator.
Taking the First Steps
Once you see the tire pressure light appear on the dashboard of your Hyundai VENUE, it’s necessary to find a secure place to change the tire. If you’re on I-95, then you may wish to get towed to our dealership location rather than risk performing the task on the side of the road. If you can find a good area that is well lit and away from traffic, then obtain your spare tire and the other tools mentioned above. Start by removing the hub cap on the damaged component and using the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts about half a turn. Once that’s finished, use your Owner’s Manual to find a secure location to place the tire jack. Lift the vehicle until several inches of clearance is below the flattened tire. Then, finish turning the lug nuts until you can easily remove them. Place the lug nuts where they won’t be lost, slide the tire off its mount, and put it off to the side.
Wrapping Up the Process
Now that the flat tire is off of your Hyundai SANTA FE, it’s time to put the spare on by essentially reversing the process. Slide the spare tire over the lug bolts and push it all the way back. Next, add the lug nuts by hand and secure them by several turns while ensuring that you are following a star-shaped pattern. After that, lower the vehicle until it is just barely touching the asphalt. Then, take the lug wrench and tighten the nuts the rest of the way. Finally, set the car down entirely and use significant force to try to secure them once again. At this point, you can continue your ride home from South Wind Trail, but you should not count on using the spare forever. You should consult our Tire Center to obtain a fresh component or two.
How Long Can I Drive on a Spare Tire?
- You should only drive for 50 miles on a spare tire while maintaining a speed less than 50 MPH.

“ Outstanding. ”
“ Joseph in service is fantastic. He’s incredibly communicative, fair, and upfront about all costs. I always feel informed and never pressured. Truly appreciate the honesty and great customer care. ”
“ I just bought a used car from them yesterday so this is based on that experience, and if anything changes in the future I’ll edit my review. But here’s how yesterday went: I showed up by myself, with a concussion, and made it clear before I even arrived that I couldn’t understand complicated math / finance stuff. CJ was the main person I worked with, with Brenda and Ray helping out. All three of them were so, so kind, and patient, and transparent the whole day (I was there for about 6 hours). They made it clear we could go at my own pace and I could change my mind whenever I wanted. At one point I caught a mistake in their paperwork that added a $1,000 charge I didn’t want, but unlike the previous dealership I went to, they were willing to take it off even though the part had already been installed without my signature. That meant so much to me! I was there for close to 6 hours and at one point I got hungry, and CJ offered to drive me to a really cool food hall down the street while we waited for my credit application to go through. They let me eat my food in the middle of the showroom (they made it very clear that I SHOULD eat and I didn’t have to go hide anywhere). CJ also drove me to drop off my rental car, helped me unload all the stuff from my rental into the new car, and filled up the tank (at 4.70 a gallon!) They worked directly with my bank, PNC, which took a huge weight off my shoulders, but they ended up finding me an even better rate with a credit union (and told me they did the hard credit check with those two places, easing my fears of having a bunch of hard credit checks in one day). The experience was a world different from the dealership I’d been to the day prior, where I almost started crying and wanted to run out of there, from how hard they were trying to sell me all kinds of stuff and had all these hidden mandatory fees. I was supposed to go back there yesterday but I had such bad vibes I wound up at Antwerpen, and I’m so glad I did! When I asked about when the next major maintenance, they googled it and pulled up the Hyundai site (nice knowing that it wasn’t something they just had on their desktop to convince customers) and then told me that they’d done all the major maintenance (not including oil change or little things) for the next mileage maintenance checkpoint. They showed me the carfax and highlighted the work and the date they’d done it. The test drive went wonderfully and was super comfortable, the car was a fantastic price in the present hostile economy, and I know it’s only been a day but I seriously love this car so much. At the end of it all, I went to shake hands with CJ and Brenda but they each gave me a warm hug. It felt like I had a bunch of people on my team, it felt like a family. I also found a ton of four leaf clovers in the grass in front of their store. I gave one to each of them, and kept one for myself to keep in my new car. I left the rest to grow, for them and for the next people who get lucky enough to have the used car buying experience I did, in a world where it’s a nerve wracking experience trying to find and purchase a car alone. ”

“ I had the best experience in buying a car at Atwerpen Hyundai of Clarksville. The star of the show was Katrina J. I reached out with a basic inquiry. She listened to my needs and recommended a vehicle I wasnt sure I'd like. However, she found my dream perfect vehicle. While showing the vehicle, she was so knowledgeable. She is so kind and nice, it created such a comfortable situation for such a large purchase. I went from a simple question to driving my dream car so quickly, because all the effort Katrina put in. Beyond Katrina, everyone was great to interact with. I truly feel this is a place where they care about their customers and want all aspects of an experiebce to be positive. ”

“ Charles Johnson was great; he did a great job making us want to buy from Antwerpen Clarksville. I would highly recommend Charles to friends and neighbors. ”
“ So I'll preface this by saying I haven't had to deal with buying a car more than a few times, but I really have to hand it to Antwerpen. From the moment I initially called to the moment I left with my new 2026 ioniq 5 lease the staff was nothing but super helpful and personable. Working with CJ, Ryan, and Nathan was more like having a nice time with friends rather than a sales situation, and I never felt pressured once. 10/5 would recommend. ”
“ CJ and Nathen are wonderful to work with. Helpful, friendly, and informative without uncomfortable sales pressure. Excellent customer service. ”
“ I had a great experience at Antwerpen Hyundai of Clarksville trading in my Sonata for a newer model. I received a very fair trade-in value and drove off in a beautiful newer Sonata-the upgrade was perfect. My salesman, DJ, was excellent from start to finish. No pressure at all, just honest advice that helped me make the right decision. I highly recommend Antwerpen Hyundai of Clarksville, especially DJ. You won’t be disappointed! ”
I highly recommend Hyundai of Clarksville to anyone in
“ I highly recommend Hyundai of Clarksville to anyone in the market for a new Hyundai. The experience was great from the moment we walked into the door to the one we drove away in our new Santa Fe the following day. No pressure, friendly, and had exactly what I was looking for at the most competitive price. ”
“ I brought my sonata in for a routine oil change. The service advisor, Joseph was professional and kept me updated on the status of my vehicle. They performed a complimentary multi-point inspection and efficiently addressed a few minor repairs that I hadn't even noticed. The work was completed within the quoted time, and the waiting area was clean and comfortable. I appreciate the transparency and lack of surprise charges. Excellent service experience. I would highly recommend 10/10 ”
“ Not to bad of a sales crew, they walked me through as they should and were great at what they do. However, the vehicle, when delivered, still had adhesive on it from the plastic paint protection sheets. It was taken back and corrected, but the vehicle was NEVER DETAILED prior to delivery to me, it came out dry bone. How a manager would allow this is beyound me for a new vehicle sale. It was still dirty and 5 months of water spots. They applied tire shine and that was it. I was at the dealership for about 5 hours at that point, some time spent switxging my tires over, and a 2 hour drive back home, I just got the vehicle and left. Sales staff is good, however the detailing crew and management allowing a car to be delivered in that condition....exceedingly poor. ”
“ This dealership CALLED ME and begged me to come in, swearing up and down they could beat the price I had from a competitor. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, made the hour-long drive, and spent money on gas — only to sit there while they told me my price “couldn’t possibly be real.” So let me get this straight: YOU reached out to ME. YOU promised to beat the price. And when I showed up, YOU called me a liar and sent me packing? Absolutely disgraceful. I wasted a full afternoon and came home with nothing but frustration. Do yourself a favor — if they call you with promises, hang up. They will bait you in and waste your time without a second thought. ”
“ The dealership looks great. People are nice. Service is horrible. An oil change take 2-3hrs. A simple diagnostic procedure for a broken window motor takes 2-4 buisness days of the car sitting in the lot and waiting. I bought my last car there and I will not do this again. Service should not be this difficult ”
“ Wasted my time! My undercarriage is falling apart, went in to go get it fixed. All they did was put the duct tape I had on back in place. DO NOT GO HERE. ”
